Naming & Colours
Club name and colours came about whilst Jean and Gwen were watching a match featuring the Canadian women’s team, who wore royal blue and gold uniforms.
Gwen remarked that the team “looked really regal”, and they both thought that this would be a great name for the new club.

Club Starts
Regals Hockey Club was established in 1975 by two friends, Jean Andrews and Gwen Shields , who saw a need for a new club in the Newcastle competition. Regals joined the senior and junior competition in the 1976 season, starting out with 5 senior and 6 junior teams.

Strong Newcastle Presence
Regals have been a strong presence in the Newcastle competition ever since, with a large Junior club feeding into seniors, and a loyal bunch of players who have been with the club for many years.
Olympic Starters
Regals have fostered the hockey careers of many players, with many going on to play representative hockey at regional, state and national level. Players reaching the Hockeyroos and playing at the Olympic games include: Alison Bruce, Shelley Andrews and Kate Jenner.
